Secretary Fang Ping made a guidance lecture for teachers and students of SPSIR on learning the “Four Histories”

On the afternoon of November 27, 2020, Professor Fang Ping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Disciplinary Committee of Tongji University, made a guidance lecture on learning the “Four Histories” (meaning the histories of the Communist Party of China, the People’s Republic of China, reform and opening-up, and socialist development) in the conference hall on the 10th floor of Zhonghe Building for all the faculty members and representatives of student Party members of SPSIR. The lecture was presided over by Xu Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Political Science & International Relations (SPSIR) of Tongji University, and attended by more than 50 teachers and students.

Around the topic of "Shanghai and the Founding of the Communist Party of China", Secretary Fang first introduced the growth of Shanghai’s modernity and used rich historical materials to recall the history of foreign concessions in Shanghai and the changes in Shanghai’s social stratum structure, pointing out the importance of Shanghai as the birthplace of the Chinese working class. He elaborated on the formation and development of the new intelligentsia in Shanghai after the May 4th Movement. In particular, he made a detailed historical analysis of the ideological and cultural conditions for the spread of Marxism and the founding of the CPC in Shanghai. Like a rigorous and meticulous historian, he deduced step by step that Shanghai, as the center of Chinese modern culture, has played a key role in the wide spread of Marxism. His review of the establishment of the initial group of Shanghai CPC and its main activities was entirely based on rich and detailed historical analysis. All teachers and students were impressed by his vivid and detailed description of the Shanghai concession and the contributions made by Chen Wangdao, Yu Xiusong and other revolutionists as well as the convening of the 1st CPC National Congress to the founding of the Party, and his in-depth analysis of the inevitability and contingency of Shanghai becoming the birthplace of the CPC.

 Based on his profound historical knowledge and full understanding of the historical materials of the Party, Secretary Fang helped every participant learn more about the history of the founding of the CPC from a new academic perspective and feel the hardships of the founding and the Party’s lofty mission of working for the benefit of the Chinese people. This live experience has provided everyone with a great opportunity to better learn the “Four Histories”.
