SPSIR holds an education summary meeting on the theme of “staying true to our original aspiration and founding mission”

In accordance with the requirements of the Party Committee of Tongji University and the 7th Tour Steering Group of the Party Committee of Tongji University on Party History Learning and Education on holding an education summary meeting on the theme of “staying true to our original aspiration and founding mission” during the epidemic prevention and control period, the Party Committee of the School of Political and International Relations (SPSIR) of Tongji University held the said summary meeting via Zoom on the afternoon of March 27, 2020. Comrade Ni Bin from the 7th Tour Steering Group attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Comrade Xu Hong, Secretary of Party Committee of SPSIR, made a summary report on behalf of the Party Committee of SPSIR. The meeting was moderated by Comrade Men Honghua, Dean and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of SPSIR.

Comrade Men pointed out that since September last year, in strict accordance with the requirements of the 7th Tour Steering Group, the Party Committee of SPSIR has carried out work in the four aspects of learning and education, investigation and research, problem examination, and rectification and implementation during a three-month education campaign on the theme of “staying true to our original aspiration and founding mission”. With a firm grasp of the general requirements of “staying true to our original aspiration, undertaking our mission, finding out where we have lagged behind, and ensuring implementation” and the target of “benefiting from theoretical learning, baptizing the ideological and political work, daring to start a business, helping the people solve problems, and setting an example of integrity”, it strives to improve Party leadership, strengthen institutional arrangements, and actively promote the accountability system of Party building of SPSIR, to make sure that this campaign would deliver solid results, accelerate the progress of work in all aspects, and provide an effective impetus for the construction and development of first-class disciplines at SPSIR.

Comrade Xu Hong made a summary of this education campaign. Since September 17, 2019, the leadership team of SPSIR has organized 6 collective learning activities, identified inadequacy by comparison, investigated the identified problems, held teachers’ meetings, clarified the 5 key research topics and the 6 key tasks for the leadership team and 3 problems that each team member needs to review and resolve. At the same time, measures were taken to rectify the problems. On December 6, 2019, the Party Committee of SPSIR held a meeting of democratic life to deeply analyze the main problems of the leadership team and its members, and then carried out criticism and self-criticism, which proved to be quite effective. In accordance with the overall plan of the leading group for the education campaign of the University Party Committee, it also organized all Party members among teachers and students at SPSIR to earnestly carry out learning and discussion, launch Party day activities, conduct two tests on the theoretical knowledge, and carry out volunteer service activities with the Party branch as a unit. The appraisal of all Party members was successfully completed in December 2019.

Through this education campaign, members of the leadership team and all Party members of SPSIR have gained a deeper understanding of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, their entrepreneurial spirit has undergone a significant change, and the theoretical level and work enthusiasm of leading cadres and Party members has generally improved. Comrade Xu said that the School will further consolidate the results of the education campaign, strengthen rectification, improve various systems, and establish a long-term mechanism for improving Party building and ideological work and building a fine Party culture and a corruption-free Party. At present, the most important thing for the School is to properly respond to the pandemic by focusing all the faculty members on the overall arrangements for epidemic prevention and control made by the University Party Committee, and do a good job in online teaching, thus making due contribution to winning the battle against the pandemic. In active response to the call of the University Party Committee, all Party members of SPSIR voluntarily joined the donation activities to show their patriotism and benevolence, as well as their strong faith in beating the virus. This is an important manifestation of the effective results of the education campaign.

Next, Comrade Ni Bin delivered a speech at the summary meeting. On behalf of the University Party Committee, he spoke highly of SPSIR’s efforts in this education campaign, and hoped that the Party Committee of SPSIR will unremittingly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, make further efforts in understanding, grasping and applying the Thought, consciously raise its political stance, and use the “Four Consciousnesses” to lead the way, the “Four-Sphere Confidence” to lay a solid foundation, and the “Two Upholds” to nurture the soul. He urged the Party Committee of SPSIR to comprehensively strengthen the Party’s leadership over education, and all Party members to constantly review their poor performance that goes against their original aspiration and mission. Efforts should be made to fix some visible problems in Party building each year, to further consolidate the achievements of the education campaign, ensure its full implementation, and promote the high-quality development of first-class disciplines at SPSIR.

 Comrade Xu said that the education campaign has been fully recognized by Comrade Ni in his speech. He encouraged the Party Committee of SPSIR to make greater efforts, and also raised requirements for the next steps. The School will continue to thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and carefully complete the decisions and deployment made by the University Party Committee, to ensure the full implementation of all rectification measures.

More than 50 participants including the Party and administrative team members, the Party Committee and the Disciplinary Committee, as well as all faculty Party members and representatives of student Party members of SPSIR attended this video conference. The education campaign on the theme of “staying true to our original aspiration and founding mission” was a great success.
